"Social Prescribing, a new concept in Singapore and recommended course for Active Ageing Centre staff, has been rewarding to learn about. As a manager, I attended the training, with potential to introduce it to staff if beneficial. My social work background allows me to associate with the concept and understand its broader applications beyond seniors I serve. This approach helps when interacting with people by providing a listening ear before connecting them with resources that address their needs. The concept can benefit various individuals in our community, not just seniors. As we practice these skills, they will become intuitive, enhancing our ability to support and connect people with appropriate resources.”

I was introduced to the concept of social prescribing through the Social Prescribing Show 2022 and resonated with this concept strongly. To promote active ageing through our Lions Befrienders Active Ageing Centre, we practice social prescribing every day by identifying the needs and interests of seniors before connecting them through interest groups and volunteering opportunities. I have personally witnessed how the social connections formed between seniors have helped to improve their physical and mental well-being, and for some, to cope with their grief and loss.It is my hope that the SCOMP community continues to grow in the coming years as we re-define how care is being delivered in the society.
